Samaritan Hospital established in 1968 is one of the prestigious Hospitals in India. It is a Catholic hospital managed by the “sisters of the Destitute”. In 1999 the hospitals and the associated institutions were brought under the Samaritan Medical Care Association a Registered Charitable Society – ER 313, 17.3.1999. It is in Samaritan Hospital the Open Heart Surgery was started for the first time in Kerala in 1972. This department stopped functioning in 1983 due to economic non viability in rural setting like ours and also because new surgical facilities offering similar services came up in the Government setup.

In 1975 the pioneers of the hospital thought of having a Nursing School , steps were taken by the authorities. Inspection was conducted by the Nursing Council in September and sanction was accorded on 12.12.1975. We got first circular from the Nursing Council regarding the interview of applicants to be held on 16.12.1975.

1st January in1976 – a memorable day – 15 energetic young girls stepped in, to give dedicated service to the poor and needed, as good Samaritan. Under the loving kind patronage of Mother Savio, the Superior General, Sr. James the Administrator, Sr. Sales – the Nursing superintendent and under the tender care of Sr.Jacintha and Sr. Gee , the Nursing School was established .

The College was started in 2002 and Sr. Lilia S.D was the Principal . Under the efficient leadership of our principal the college grew up well for three years. Sr Lilia passed away to her heavenly abode on 10th October 2005. Sr Rubeena S.D. the vice-principal took over the charge of the principal on 11th October 2005. The college is with all modern facilities in 5 acres of land .

The present strength of B.Sc Nursing students is 200. Our six batches successfully passed out and Two students had secured I and II Rank in the state level during the year 2007. One of our students also secured II Rank in the state level in 2008. One of our final year student who got first prize in Scientific paper presentation in the State has got an opportunity to present her Paper in the TNAI National Conference held at Kolkatta on 30-10-2009.

2nd Milestone of the College of Nursing

M.Sc Nursing programme commenced on 24th October 2011 with three specialities – Medical Surgical (5), Paediatrics (4) & OBG (4)

The goal of post graduation programme is to mould efficient, full pledged and competent teachers in the field of nursing , conduct research in areas of nursing service and education, practice evidence based comprehensive care in clinical and advanced health care facilities, prepare the students to adopt different roles in the arena of nursing.

Now the college has 22 teaching and 10 ministerial staff. The college maintains a high standard in curricular and extra curricular activities.
