Samaritan Hospital  established in 1968 is   one of the prestigious Hospitals in India. It is a Catholic hospital managed by the  “sisters of  the Destitute”.  In  1999 the hospitals and the associated institutions were brought under the Samaritan Medical Care  Association a Registered Charitable Society – ER 313, 17.3.1999

It is in Samaritan Hospital  the Open Heart Surgery was started for the first time in Kerala in 1972. This department stopped functioning in 1983  due to economic  non viability in rural setting  like ours and also because new surgical facilities offering similar services came up in the Government setup

In 1975 the pioneers of the hospital thought of having a Nursing School , steps were taken by the authorities. Inspection was conducted by the Nursing Council in September and sanction was accorded on 12.12.1975. We got first circular from the Nursing Council    regarding the interview of applicants to be held on 16.12.1975.

1st January in1976 –  a memorable day – 15 energetic young girls stepped in, to give dedicated service to the poor and needed, as good  Samaritan. Under the loving kind patronage of  Mother Savio, the Superior  General, Sr. James  the Administrator, Sr. Sales    – the Nursing superintendent and under the   tender   care of  Sr.Jacintha  and Sr. Gee , the Nursing School was established .
